Johnson
On
May 15th of 2007 I lost my beautiful Siberian Husky, Stoli, to
canine cancer. He was just 7 years old. I will never know if I could have given
him more quality time or a chance of a cure had I been more educated and aware.
I have been involved in animal welfare for several years. I volunteered at a
wildlife rescue, Safe
Haven, where we worked to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned and
injured wildlife as well as provide a permanent home for animals that could not
be released back in to the wild. I am a volunteer and foster mom
for Northern
Lights Sled Dog Rescue.
I have received FEMA Certification encompassing Animals in Disaster:
Awareness, Preparedness & Community Planning. I also volunteer for the United
Animal Nations Emergency Animal Rescue
Service (E.A.R.S.).
I
made the decision to become a Pet CPR & First Aid Instructor to raise the awareness of pet
owners and to give them the skills necessary in the event of an emergency. Not all injuries or disease can be predicted or prevented but I hope to educate
and enable pet owners to become more informed and aware of their pet’s health.
We
are, and choose to be, the ‘parents’ of these animals. It is our obligation
to provide them with the best care and quality of life possible.

The
first dog that I ever adopted was a 7 month old Dalmatian, Sudsie, who
taught me many valuable lessons in her 14 ½ years. She was
paralyzed for the last year and a half of her life and she still continued
to give that unconditional love in spite of her malady. She was my
heart and my inspiration.
I
have been involved in animal rescue for several years now…mainly
northern breed rescue, and have served on the board of directors for
Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue. I
also volunteer for IAMRA and
Adopt-A-Husky.
I am a volunteer
for United Animal Nations and
Noah's
Wish
focusing on emergency rescue and disaster relief for animals in crisis.
Being in rescue, you see a lot of things happen to dogs, and other
animals, that you would rather not know about at all. Being able to
take a dog out of a bad situation and find him, or her hope, is a
wonderful thing. But, knowing that you have the knowledge and
ability to actively help a dog, or cat, in an emergency situation brings
rescue to the next level. Be it a rescue animal, or a family
companion, those precious hearts deserve the best that we have to offer
them. My goal is to help supply other people with the training they
need to be able to help their animals, and other animals, if and when that
emergency situation arises.
